150 dozen met e-mails?

Eindelijk komen de e-mailberichten van Sarah Palin waar journalisten in 2008 om gevraagd hebben vrij. Het gaat om meer dan 24.000 pagina's die alle e-mails omvatten die ze in haar eerste 21 maanden als gouverneur van Alaska ontvangen en verzonden heeft. En - nu komt het - lle e-mails zijn geprint!

Only those willing to pay Alaska hundreds of dollars in printing costs are getting a shipment of five boxes weighing 275 pounds in total, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

The State of Alaska says it doesn't have the software to electronically redact 24,000 pages of e-mail messages from former Gov. Palin's time in office and will only make them available in printed form to anyone who will pay $725.97 in printing fees.

We've had a few messages complaining that the emails reveal personal details of senders such as email addresses etc. One thing people need to be really clear about is that this is not a leak; it's not Wikileaks. This is an official release of 24,199 documents, handed over by the State of Alaska - following freedom of information requests - printed on paper (the least accessible form possible). Some 2,275 have been witheld - and some of the ones we've received have been redacted. We're just making them accessible - and we need our readers' help to go through them.

The Alaska governor's office is taking digital information and turning it into paper instead of just releasing the information in digital form.

So is it safe to assume then that the official record of these email communications is the paper version?

And also safe to assume that all the metadata associated with these communications is of no interest?
Sigh.
And to make things even nuttier, the Washington Post is reportedly looking for 100 volunteers to crowdsource finding juicy paper needles in this paper haystack. For information THAT WAS IN DIGITAL FORM TO BEGIN WITH.
